Scientist Achim Leistner (right) has been charged with creating 2 spheres each weighing exactly 1 kilogram.

These will serve as the new international standard for the kilogram, as the original standard a Platinum and Iridium bar made in 1889 has been shown to be decaying.

It will take 12 weeks to turn a kilogram of Silicon-28 into a near perfect sphere.

Either way you look at it Achim Leistner is being paid to polish his balls for 12 weeks!
