I've often wondered about building myself a Lotus 7, although I somehow expect that you would need some kind of mechanical aptitude! I would say that if I was to drive a car that I had built it would end in a fireball spinning down Manchester Road, but in reality I could see the thing falling apat on the drive when I release the hand break.
